Roleplaying has seen many different formats throughout its history; tabletop, live action, spoken, forum, etc. Along with these formats come rules and regulations that each specific game follows. As an independent roleplaying forum, we have our own original set of rules that we will follow. Since this is a casual environment, enforcement of these rules will be more lenient then most forum roleplays. However, please make sure to adhere to them, regardless, as it will make your roleplay experience, along with everyone's around you, smooth and enjoyable.
1. No Godmodding. For those not familiar with the term, godmodding is basically invincibility. Whether its dodging every swing in a fight, knowing what another character is thinking, never becoming worn or tired, or seemingly doing everything with perfect ease, a character cannot have any kind of invincibility, unless a staff member has approved of some power, such as poison immunity, eternal life, etc. Since we do not require any strict rules regarding combat and knowledge, it is up to you to know your character's limits and flaws and following them.
2. NPC Control. Only staff can control NPCs. This rule will be strictly enforced. The reason is to create as immersive an experience as possible.
3. No Double Posting. This is only in the roleplaying zone for posting flow. Wait for someone else to respond and do something before your character does anything else. If you have two characters in the same thread, put both of their actions in the same post.
4. One Reaction One Action Rule. Each one of your roleplay posts must follow the one reaction one action rule. This means that your character must start by reacting to whatever the other character(s) did before you then respond with an action of their own.
5. Tag your threads. For the sake of sanity and organization, please tag your threads with inclusive titles. These titles are as follows: [Mod], [User] (another player), [Open], and [1 on 1]. Tagging it with Mod will create a solo thread with an NPC or event of the moderator's design. Tagging it with User will call a certain user to be your roleplay partner for that thread. Tagging it with Open will open the thread for anyone to join, whether a moderator or another player and anyone can join at anytime. Tagging with 1 on 1 will open it to everyone, whether a moderator or another player, but once that person responds, it is a closed thread. These can be combined as much as you like.
6. End your threads. When you feel like your thread has come to an end, please make sure to write End Thread at the bottom past the roleplay. The only person allowed to do this is the person who started the thread.
7. 'Companion' NPC. If you find yourself in a situation where, according to your character's backstory, you need a character that does not have an approved bio, please contact staff with a short description of the character; appearance, personality, and their significance to your character. If approved, you may control this NPC but only in threads that involve the specific character they were created with. Unlike your personal characters, staff with have a limited amount of control over these NPCs.
8. Liquid Time. Due to us trying our best to be as an immersive and realistic experience as possible, we are not allowing liquid time, which includes your characters being in multiple places at once, jumping locations, and moving through threads like no time has passed. I realize that it will be impossible to have a separate time system considering player activity and how long threads can take in some cases. However, try to be realistic when thinking about time. Traveling from one location to the next should not take any less then a few hours, depending on the location. Also, please try your best to pick up in a new thread from where you left off in the last. This will make for smoother, more immersive roleplay.
9. Activity. We have no rules concerning activity and we have no activity checks, continuing along the lines of a casual forum. However, there comes a time that the person your roleplaying with may fall inactive and you wish to pull from the thread without breaking any of the rules. If your partner hasn't replied within a few days, send them a PM to remind them or contact them outside of the forum. If two weeks have gone by, you may either edit your post and manually leave the thread or, if you are in a situation where leaving is not an option, you may contact a staff member with the thread details and they will create an event that will safely remove your character from the thread.
Please make sure to check back on this thread regularly for updates. Continuous infractions of these rules will, depending on which rule and the severity, either have a staff member take you through a tutorial on how to roleplay according to our rules, or, in the most extreme cases, banned from posting for a set amount of time.
